First time skied here in Jan 2015. Vail Ski Resort is located in Colorado (USA), next to the town of Vail. It is a beautiful alpine resort town in the Rocky Mountains (commonly known as the Rockies), surrounded by the White River National Forest. The Rockies stretch more than 3,000 miles from the northernmost part of British Columbia, in western Canada, to New Mexico, in the southwestern United States. Vail Mountain is one of the largest single mountain ski resort in the USA. Its base elevation is 8,120 ft with tops at 11,570 ft. Skiable area is 5,289 acres with a total of 193 runs. Longest run is 6.4 km. It has three sections: The Front-Side, Blue Sky Basin, and the Back Bowls. Most of the mountain is wide open terrain with trails of all types; from cruising runs to wide open Back Bowls, glades, chutes, moguls and cornices. It is home to world-class athletes during the U.S. Ski Team early-season training sessions in Golden Peak, the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships and the future 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships. Other Resorts on the West Coast are still on my bucket list. Check this link for a number of Best Ski Resorts in US/Canada.
