German Alps

Post by K.Haroon » Thu Oct 04, 2018 5:51 pm

First time skied on German Alps in April 2011. The Zugspitze, at 2,962 metres (9,717 feet) above sea level, is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the border between Germany and Austria runs over its western summit. At the top of Zugspitze there's something to suit everyone's taste. Experience seven months of guaranteed snow cover and panoramic views extending from German and Austrian Alps far into the white powdered Dolomite mountains of Italy and the Swiss Alps. The mountain station invites you to linger in the rustic summit restaurant, Gipfelalm, and the Panorama-Lounge 2962. You can easily reach the Zugspitze Glacier just 300 meters (984 feet) below the summit in the Glacier cable car.

Next year in Jan 2012 skied on Alpspitze. All of three ski mountains - Hausberg, Kreuzeck und Alpspitze – are joined together in the Garmisch-Classic area. 40 kilometers of slopes at an altitude of 700 to 2,050 meters are there to tempt you with runs of infinite diversity. The panorama beneath the majestic Alpspitze pyramid is one of the most beautiful of the northern Alps. A winter mountain wonderland high above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, skiing over the tree line and pure natural snow. Olympic tradition and World Cup future meet at Kreuzeck. Top athletes tear down the racy Kandahar course at break-neck speeds where the history of winter sports in Garmisch-Partenkirchen first began more than 80 years ago. The course spans an altitude difference of 940 meters, which the fastest accomplish in just under 2 minutes. In 2011, the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup took place here. Two parallel variants provide sporting diversity on runs of 3 kilometers each which represent the grand final of the Kandahar Roundtrip. Check this link for other options of Skiing in Germany.
