Resorts in Norway

Norway is where I have skied the most, but so far on two resorts only, namely Tryvann in Oslo and Hemsedal. Hemsedal (Scandinavian Alps) is a popular destination with Skicenter as the biggest attraction. First time skied here in Feb 2015. It is known as one of Scandinavia´s largest ski resorts, and has mountains that resembles those further south in Europe. It is located 220 km northwest of Oslo and is the second largest ski resort in Norway. The ski center was opened in 1961. With its northern, high location of 625–1920 m above sea level, it is a destination with guaranteed snow during its season (Nov-May). It offers about 50 slopes and 3 terrain parks. Longest descent is about 6 km with a descent of 810 m. Total piste length is around 45 km. Hemsedal is also known for magnificent and varied off-piste options that are easily accessible from the ski lifts. It offers pistes that descend from the three summits Totten, Tinden and Røgjin that surround the resort. The top of the Totten is the highest location in the Hemsedal Ski Centre at 1,450 metres above sea level. The top of the Tindenheisen lift has a fantastic 360 degree view of the mountains around Hemsedal. The Tinden area also has great options for anyone wishing to go off-piste. Røgjin mountain offers sun-facing pistes. From here you get a great view of the valley and a panoramic view of the pistes on Totten and Tinden.

Tryvann Vinterpark is Oslo's main ski resort, only 20 minutes from downtown Oslo. Skied here many times since it is the closest resort that can be accessed easily during visits to Oslo. First time skied here in Nov 2010. It has 14 slopes and 7 lifts. Activities are alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, special area for children and beginners, terrain park and halfpipe. Challenges for all ages; children, youngsters and adults will all find suitable slopes. Oslo Vinterpark Tryvann is located 523 metres above sea level. Normally open from mid-November to April. It has evening skiing 5 days a week until 22:00, and floodlight in all the slopes. The longest run is 1400 meters, total drop is 381 meters. A powerful snow cannon system and an altitude of 500 meters above sea level ensure snow from the beginning of December until April.
